Bob Dempster is building a replica of
the Douglas World Cruiser Seattle, the
lead plane of the squadron of four
airplanes that were the first fly around
the world in 1924. Shortly after leaving
the City of Seattle’s then Municipal
Airport at Sand Point, the airplane
named after the city crashed in the
Aleutians. The first aerial
circumnavigation was completed with the
Cruiser Chicago in the lead. Bob
Dempster is building the Seattle II and
plans to complete the original planes
interrupted journey in 2008, after which
the replica will be donated to the
Museum’s permanent collection. |
