Repairs Completed on World Cruisers
Daily Report
by Lt. L. P. Arnold, "Chicago", Mechanic
We were up & ready for the Richmond [US Navy Cruiser] at 6:00 a.m. -- had the weather been good the spares would have been sent in by plane but the wind was great & the waters rough, so the boat came in & anchored about 9:00.
We soon had the parts ashore bit the water was too rough to work on the planes & we spent the time talking with the crew & newspaper men. About 8 in the evening the wind died out & we went to work -- #4 [New Orleans] was finished about 10:00 but we had unexpected trouble [with #2 "Chicago"] & it was 2:30 a.m. when we finished -- and no dinner.
When we start the ships will be lined up thusly:
Richmond - 90 miles
Reid #292 - 115 miles
Billingsley #293 - 140 miles
Barrey - 150 miles
Raleigh - 160 miles
Greenland Coast - 70 miles
Fredriksdal - 60 miles
