Daily Report

by Lt. L. P. Arnold, "Chicago", Mechanic

All day was spent connecting things up & late in the afternoon the motors on both planes were run up & found to need carburetor changes. The weather was chilly with overcast sky but no rain & in the afternoon when the breeze vanished millions of flies & gnats appeared. They are most troublesome as they fly into your eyes, nose, mouth & ears & some of them bite viciously. It is really necessary to wear nets for protection which was a surprise to us in Greenland.

Practically the whole population of Ivigut came over in late afternoon -- they looked the planes over & then went to Milwaukee where they had supper & later they attended the movies aboard & the ships quartet entertained. The movies are shown on deck & the fact that it rained made no difference to them -- although we came below & turned in.
