World Flight Cancels Hop to Greenland
Daily Report
by Lt. L. P. Arnold, "Chicago", Mechanic
reparations were made for us to arise at 4:30 & get under way -- but radio reports from Schulze at Augmasalik [Greenland] stating that the harbor was full of floating ice & that it was impossible to land, canceled all plans. Consequently we spent late -- and spent the day checking over weather reports, talking, & passing the time as best we could.
The enforced delay is most irksome & all of us are fretting to get under way again.

Radio messages were sent to Lieut. Schulze, who finally reached Angmasalik, asking him to make a scouting trip to determine if there were not some other harbor near Angmasalik available for us. On August 14th, a reply was received reporting the existence of a safe mooring place and the Navy took up their patrol stations.
Later, another message from Lieut. Schulze was received, informing us that conditions had changed and that it was still impossible to land at or near Angmasalik.
