Italian World Flight Plane Missing
Daily Report
by Lt. L. P. Arnold, "Chicago", Mechanic
About 7:00 we all arose -- Erik [Nelson, pilot of "New Orleans"] having minor repairs to make his planes & we -- "just because" I guess.
The weather was very foggy so in the morning we worked around doing routine work on the planes & then went to the native village to look around. The natives here are very primitive, live in sod & stone huts, eat nothing but fish & birds & dress in skins & beads. They are very clever with their native boats, "kayaks" & two entertained us by rolling over & over, etc.
As yet no word has been received from Locatelli -- boats from the Island Falk have been sent to the north & south & rumor has it that a plane was heard passing shortly after our arrival. So perhaps we will have definite information.
The fog continued all day so here we stayed & again the officers aboard treated us most royally & presented us with real models of the native boats -- complete with paddles, harpoons, etc. Also they entertained us with the "officers orchestra."
